6 Best Special Education Websites for Students and Parents

Finding an online program such as ABCmouse or any other special education website for a child with a disability is never easy. Some students learn through visuals, hands-on activities, and sometimes a combination of both or more due to the various types of learning styles that we have. Check out the special education websites for students and parents listed below. Also, be sure to check out these popular educational YouTube channels for kids.

After working in the Special Education field for over 10 years and seeing how students with disabilities struggle I can guarantee that there is a huge selection of interactive websites that students can enjoy without putting up a fuss as to why they think learning to read or doing math is boring. Therefore, I’m going to share with you the top websites for children with learning disabilities that can utilized at home and school.

Best Special Education Websites for Students

1. I-Ready

One of my favorite online platforms for helping children with disabilities meet their academic goals is i-ready. Which is an interactive online platform that moves at each student’s pace in reading and math. First, i-Ready will give the students an assessment to determine where they are performing currently academically. Then start giving students lessons based on the academic level they scored on after taking the assessment. You can also check to see what are the student’s upcoming lessons, and move their academic level above or below grade levels. The student can also check and monitor their progress, and the scores appear immediately upon finishing each lesson. Students can earn points for learning games after passing each interactive lesson.

2. Exercise

Dyslexia and other learning disabilities impact 1 in 5 children in the country, and learning to read can be a challenging subject for children with disabilities. However, due to the recent studies in Orton-gillingham.com/ and Wilson language which are both multi-sensory instruction programs for children with Dyslexia learning in the classroom has become more effective than ever when teaching children with reading disorders. Exercise is an online therapy platform that includes a structured literacy curriculum, games, videos, and activities between sessions to reinforce what your child is learning between each lesson.

3. Emotional ABCs

Helping a child with social-emotional behavioral disorders can be very challenging. However, seeing our emotions in the form of a game or video online for students to view can be a good step in the right direction. The Emotional ABCs Classroom is a research-based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum providing teachers (K–3) with 20 sequential Workshops and extensive classroom support materials for Teacher-led, in-class instruction. This platform teaches students self and social awareness, self-management, decision-making, and relationship skills through teacher-led classroom instruction.

4. IXL

One of the leading popular learning websites for students. IXL Learning is an interactive platform for students learning math, language arts, science, social studies, and Spanish. Students can choose over 7,000 interactive skills and an adaptive learning environment. Each lesson moves at the student’s pace upon completion of each lesson. IXL also has an online app for students to continue their learning outside of the classroom, and can also be completed at home while students are away from school.

5. MobyMax

One of my all-time favorites when working in the self-contained emotional behavioral classroom was utilizing MobyMax for my students during the technology center. After taking the initial assessment students can continue practicing and developing their skills in math, literacy, science, and social studies equipped with adaptive tests, test-prep lessons, interactive whiteboard activities, and motivational tools. MobyMax also features specific state test-prep activities and unique features that allow the teacher to assign assignments, and tests, and send messages to their students through direct messages through the platform.

6. Coder for Kids

This website is great for kids because it teaches them Coding. At Coder Kids their main focus is teaching students the principles of computer programming through coding games, animations, and simple programs. They use platforms like Scratch, Python, and Unity to create these projects. In addition to their coding games, they also offer coding games where your kids can make friends and learn new skills in popular games like Minecraft, Roblox, and even Fortnite, and digital arts classes where students can learn how to draw, edit videos, and create 3D objects!
