- Cute Dogs for Kids and People with Disabilities
I remember my sister and I going through a lot of pets when we were younger such as dogs, cats, turtles, rabbits, and cats. But having a dog is something that every person I believe should have at least once in their lifetime because they’re so loyal. So let’s look at the best dogs that are great for not only running with but also for emotional support when dealing with our kids with special needs.
Best Emotional Support Animals for Children and Adults
1. Labrador Retriever
As a child, I always enjoyed playing with my Labrador dog in my backyard. These lovable dogs are very loyal to the family and also easy to groom. They’re also very energetic and also need lots of exercise to run around and are very well-tempered.
2. Golden Retriever
Another one of my favorite dogs is the Golden Retriever my siblings and I had about five of these dogs growing up in the country. These dogs are perfect for children with disabilities because they’re very friendly loyal dogs to their owners. They will protect you and always show emotional support when you need someone to listen to. These dogs also require a lot of outdoor activity as well as need to be groomed regularly.
3. Beagle
The Beagle’s sweet personality makes a great personality to match your child’s mood swings when throwing a tantrum at birthday parties. These dogs are very friendly and curious pups that would be a great match for your family.
4. Sheep Dog
The sheepdog’s obedience and showmanship make it a great dog for children with autism because they are so particular when it comes to doing things. These hard-working dogs would go great with your child due to their tempers and easy to train as well. However, these dogs need regular grooming of their coat and also mind challenges to keep their brains active.
5. Great Dane
When I was younger my parents had bought two great Danes for my sister and me growing up. I remember trying to ride them as horses as a child. These dogs are great for children because of how tall and sleek they are. These dogs are great protectors and don’t require a lot of grooming when it comes to their sleek coats.
6. Cocker Spaniel
The Cocker Spaniel was always my mom’s favorite dog growing up. If properly socialized with the family at a young age these dogs would be great for children due to their gentle and sweet nature. However, please keep in mind that these dogs are quite excitable when it comes to doing things that enjoy them and make great family pets.
7. Boxer
Boxers are very friendly dogs and a great fun size for families looking for dogs that are always happy and energetic around humans. Whether your child has Autism or not these dogs are great for people who need a dog that is very patient towards their owner when completing certain tasks in their daily lives.
8. Poodle
How do Poodles make great pets for children with disabilities? you might be saying. But these dogs are so easy to train and are very lovable active dogs when playing and interacting with your child. There are so many different types of Poodles to choose from when selecting a poodle to match and fit your family’s needs. These dogs also don’t shed and are affectionate and protective over your children as well.
Why do you need a Dog…
Overall, each of these dogs makes great pets for your family whether or not you have a child or teen with a disability. Each dog in a way has their own set of advantages and disadvantages when comes to fitting in with any family. However, I believe that the proper training, love, and patience can help any dog and family bond together and stay loyal to each other for long periods.
