Yes, It’s time for back to school for all of our students, parents, and community leaders! The pandemic in 2020 has been a whirlwind for all students and parents around the world and parents have finally realized how important Teachers are to society if they haven’t known this before.
Since parents are excited about sending their child back to school and want to help Teachers with a supply list that was shunned away for years here are the hottest gadgets, tools, and supplies for parents to buy for back to school for their special needs kid for school.
Back to School Supplies
First up our list is yes you guessed it book bags! Made to hold our school supplies, books, pencils, and everything else school-related is a must on the first day of school.
I couldn’t tell you enough how many parents have sent their child to school only for us teachers to send a bunch of papers for your child to sign in a huge brown vanilla envelope.
Sensory Fidgets and Silly Putty
Okay, I know you’re probably thinking why in the world as a teacher I would tell you to send your child with special needs to school with fidgets, sensory toys, or any other toy? Well because in the classroom if your child is having a tantrum, sensory meltdown, or struggles with self-regulation emotions and behaviors then these toys are the way to go. I’m a huge advocate for these types of products when it comes to getting your child to learn at any cost.
Travel Tray for Kids
Travel trays for your car are a great way to first and foremost keep your car organized but also keep your child’s space inside the car organized. Are you always on the go when traveling to and from work or home? Then these traveling trays for your special needs kids are the way to go. Your child can work on their homework, color in a coloring book, and watch TV on their iPad.
Weight Blankets
Whoever invented weight blankets THANK YOU! When I was first introduced to weight blankets as a special education teacher I made sure to tell my principal to add to our classroom budget list. Weight blankets at home or school are a great way to not only get your child to sleep but also help me inside the classroom when calming down your child from a tantrum. If you’re interested in some more weight blankets check them out here.
School Supplies
Yes please send your child on the first day of school with school supplies. I can’t stress this enough! As teachers on the first day of school, you know that we don’t have a huge budget for buying school supplies we divide all of the school supplies up so that every student in the classroom has some supplies.
Miscellaneous Items and Products You Need!
Of course, there are many different other things besides paper, pencils, shoes, and clothes that you need for school. To have a good day at school you need the right type of environment at home. You need a great night light, toothbrush, learning kits, headphones, shoes, and an iPad for getting on EPIC for reading cool books before bed.
Why you should start back to school early?
Overall, each item may not be suitable for your child’s school back. However, I do hope you find something on this parent supply list that can help your child have a smooth transition back into school this fall that will not only help with their social-emotional skills but also their mental health as well. Something as simple as a fidget can help with de-stressing inside the classroom as well as a sensory weighted blanket to be utilized inside the classroom as well.
