Decorating a dorm room can be a fun exciting thing but only when you know the best places to shop for cheap. I remember heading off to college with only $600 to my name to décor my dorm room and these were the stores that made my room go from boring to glam.
Best Stores to Shop at for your Dorm Room
Dollar Tree
Okay I know what you’re thinking and you’re probably like why would I go shopping here. Well, Dollar tree is a great place to shop because mostly everything in there is a $1 and they have really improved with their crafts for decorating any room. I remember always going to the dollar tree in college to grab crafts to finish all my college projects and to also grab my essentials such as paper towels, soap, toilet tissue, and many other things.
Family Dollar
I don’t now about you but family dollar has really stepped up their game over the past few years with upgrading their home décor section. I have even decorated my very own room with their entire home section just on a budget of $100. Here are a few items just to name that I like shopping for at family dollar.

- Lamps
- Pillows
- Pictures
- Slogan Quote boards
Hobby Lobby
Not only can you decorate your home with this entire store but also your a college room. Hobby Lobbies is a great place to shop for pillows and bed sheets, comforters, throws, blankets, desks, and sofas. Hobby lobbies may but a little more expensive when compared to the dollar tree or family dollar but way cheaper than name brand stores.
Target
Another great store to shop at for college is target. It may be a lot more expensive one on this list but target has a lot to offer with great planning and budgeting. I have furnished my entire bedroom, den, living, and kitchen with targets merchandise.
Amazon
I don’t know any person that doesn’t use Amazon. This online store is great for shopping for pretty much everything that belongs in your home from the nails and wood to fabric and couches that you sit on the watch TV. You can save a lot of money but just shopping in one place and with just a click of one button. This online store is great for buying things for college due to their massive discounts and holiday shopping sales. Don’t miss out!
Wal-Mart
Last but not least my favorite place to shop is Wal-Mart home décor. This has always been my go store when I first started out as a freshman in college moving in to my senior year of college. Wal-Mart is very fairly cheap and is a great store for not only buying things for your dorm but also great for buying food while you’re also shopping for bed sets and electronics. I remember shopping on one side of the store for my food and groceries and than heading to the opposite side of the store grabbing my clothing, bedding, and hygiene essentials for college.
Although there are some other cool stores to shop at for college these are just a few to get started on your new room decorating journey. All of these stores throughout my entire 5 years at college help me get through the good and bad when changing college buildings, rooms, and than eventually living off campus. Decorating can be fun when done right and as I stated before with the right budget and mindset in place.
