8 Special Needs Dolls that Help with Representation

The Children’s doll business may be the largest in the toy industry. As we all know almost every child boy or girl loves to play doll babies with any kind of doll. However, special needs dolls are making their way into the world to help showcase diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism.

The special needs dolls are used by the children where it resembles mostly the characters in the cartoons, comics, and everyday life. These new toys are becoming the norm in today’s society.

Even though are are so many types of dolls available in the market including cleft lip dolls, dolls in wheelchairs, and dolls with hearing aids. We must create all types of toys that represent children and people with disabilities because kids can get familiar with seeing themselves as a person just like their non-disabled peers.

Why Representation Matters?

I don’t think that I need to go into a whole Podcast story as to why representation matters to children with special needs or any other situation or issues that we are facing as a society. Showing children that they’re also included in the classroom, home, and society is a great way for them to feel confident and build up their self-esteem. For years we haven’t made people with disabilities inclusive in society, and have tried to cover up illnesses and mental disorders that surround us. But making toys and having assistive technology for people with disabilities is a step in the right direction.
