You probably heard of Dogs as pets for children with special needs for emotional support but what about Cats?
Dogs vs. Cats…
We all know that dogs are a men’s best friend and in my opinion make the best option for people with disabilities when helping and serving their owners. However, I do believe that cats can also serve and help their owners due to the unique qualities that they portray as well. So let’s take a look at the benefits of why cats can also play an important role in a child with special needs life as well.
Affectionate
Cats are very affectionate animals and love to be petted by their owners. They also like to curl and cuddle up against things and people. Purring is another display of affection towards their owners and also a calming and soothing mechanism for kids, especially with Autism. Take a look at this video below of how this cat helps this girl with special needs in her daily life.
Laid-Back
Cats are known for being laid-back creatures and are great for children and people with disabilities because they aren’t as rowdy as other animals that require a lot of exercise and long walks. These animals can take care of themselves and require low maintenance.
Quiet Feet
Most children with special needs don’t take loud noises very kindly. So if you ever consider adopting a pet for the family then my first choice besides a dog would definitely have to be a cat because they’re so quiet.
Guardian Angel
Have you every had a rotten come around your house that doesn’t seem to just go away? Well, you probably would want to get a cat because they make the best protectors and guardian angels for their owners. After all, they want to protect the household by keeping rodents, insects, bugs, and any other living thing around that doesn’t belong in his environment away.
Build Social Skills
Did you know that Cats are great for helping children with Autism build social skills? Have you ever heard of a child having Selective Mutism. With cat’s sleek demeanor, they can teach children patience, selflessness, and kindness. These animals also help children with building self-confidence and independence due to their demeanor and nonchalant behavior.
9 Lives
Ever wanted a pet that would live just as long as you? Well, think about purchasing a cat for your child because cats make great pets for families. Cats can live anywhere from 7 to 14 years long and also can keep you active and moving to live a longer life as well.
Allergy Free
Does your child have an allergy problem? Although a hypoallergenic cat doesn’t mean you will never react, it does reduce your chances of being affected by them daily. Hypoallergenic cat breeds include:
- Balinese
- Javanese
- Devon Rex
- Cornish Rex
- Siberian
- Russian Blue
Conclusion
Overall, I think cats make great pets for any person regardless if they have a disability or not. Cats have been a favorite pet of Egyptians and other royals for many years. Please comment down below on your favorite cat and how they have made a huge impact on your family’s life.
