Creative art therapies are a great way to help your child excel in 2021 due to the pandemic. As coronavirus continues to plunder its way through the world more and more parents are looking for other outlets as to what they can do to help with their child’s social-emotional and mental health, through mindfulness practices and other therapy approaches for their child with special needs. So let’s take a look at what are the four creative art therapies that can help your child not only stay afloat in today’s world but also thrive as well and move and excel forward.
What is Creative Art Therapy?
Creative Art Therapy is a terminology often used by health care professionals to help with the psychological and social well-being of all individuals to help engage and stimulate their growth through cognitive, psychological, emotional, verbal, and nonverbal symbolization. So let’s take a further look at the 4 creative therapeutic ways below.
Art Therapy
I first learned about Art Therapy when working in the three’s classroom at a child care center. It was a girl with Autism who came to us and was very eager to touch and learn everything but got frustrated with the way she tried to process things. So I noticed that after working with her she enjoyed art and drawing. So everything I did to help her excel was teaching her everything through art and drawing and helping her improve her emotional and physical well-being.
Music Therapy
Music therapy is popular and very therapeutic during counseling therapy sessions. Through Music therapy, children learn calmness, patience, and obedience, and learn to decompress during difficult situations. This is a great form of therapy because it allows your child to have a sense of freedom or outlet from the world when dealing with challenging situations.
Dance and Movement Therapy
I don’t know any child who doesn’t love to dance or move around consistently. Dance therapy is a great way to get your child to recognize their emotions and feelings through movement and dance. Dancing also helps your special needs child improve their gross and fine motor skills. When I was at summer camp we hosted a dance party every week for the kids. Not only did I lose weight but I also gained self-awareness of my body, mind, and soul. Dancing was therapeutic to me because it taught me to have grace and patience and to just let go and be free around the people and space around me.
Play Therapy
By far the best way you can teach a child to learn anything and be aware of the things around them is through play therapy! As infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children they’re learning about the world around them by exploring and putting things inside their mouths. Do you remember in Kindergarten before they took away centers and naps in public schools? Children learn to work in groups, build confidence, and explore their mental awareness. For example, say you have a child playing with blocks with another child. They both need to figure out how to build a tower so they’re using their thinking and analytical skills to build a tower that is sturdy and will last long.
Conclusion
So are you convinced yet to consider creative art therapies this year for your child? Or maybe you’re already doing this and want to consider other forms of creative art therapy techniques for your child. Art therapy for children is something that I believe every parent should look into in 2021 due to the stress of 2020.
