Why do Reptiles Make Great Emotional Support Animals?
Emotional Support Animal – The first thing that someone thinks of when it comes to emotional support for children and adults with special needs is a dog or cat. Well, more and more people are realizing that other animals and pets can also be emotional supports. So let’s look at the top 8 reptiles/animals that serve as emotional support for people who suffer from emotional or psychological conditions.
1) Rabbit
I can’t remember going to any school that didn’t have a Rabbit as a class pet. These furry babies make the best emotional support animals for people with disabilities because they are so calm, and fluffy, and require low maintenance when taking care of.
2) Snake
There are many different snakes out there that make the best emotional support for adults and children. But if I had to choose any snake it would be the Corn snake. After spending an entire summer at a summer camp for children and working in the reptile room it’s safe to say that this type of snake is great for children and adults due to its friendly and calm nature.
3) Hamster
Hamsters were always my favorite class pet when attending school. These animals are so calm, quiet, and quick on their feet to keep you active. They’re also very fluffy and a great size for all people looking for a small emotional animal to travel with.
4) Turtle
Having a large or small turtle can be a great emotional support when struggling with depression, loneliness, or any other psychological disorder. These pets make great friends because they’re quiet, slow, and reserved, and require low maintenance. These animals are also cheap to purchase and easy to accommodate. Just make sure that having a turtle as a pet is allowed in your state.
5) Ferret
One of my favorite pets growing up was the ferret. These animals are great for snuggling up with at night or during the day and also are a joy to have as a pets. These fur babies are small, easygoing, quiet, litter-trained, social, and attentive. Ferrets transport easily, do not stress easily from travel. Also, check out the video above of how the raccoon and ferret interact with one another.

Pigs serve as an emotional support for children with Autism to help with vocalization and calming skills. Did you also know that pigs can detect low blood sugar in their owners and upcoming seizures? They can also help people with disabilities who struggle with depression and socialization.

I’ve always wanted a raccoon growing up as a kid and didn’t know that it would serve as a great emotional support for adults and children. Check out this video below of how this guy goes along his daily life living with his raccoon.

Whoever would have thought of a Goat as an emotional support for people? These cute animals provide the best emotional support due to their friendly nature.
