Apps are a great way for children to practice mindfulness at home or on the go. Just check out these great mindfulness and meditation apps for kids listed below.

Mindfulness Activities

Mindfulness is something that we should be practicing every day inside the classroom and at home. But what are some neat ways to teach our children mindfulness?

Just check out the list of activities listed below that can help your child or teen become aware of their surroundings and be involved in the present moment.

1.) Draw your emotions:

Are your children aware of their emotions? do they understand the basic emotions (happy, sad, angry, surprised, anxious, and frustrated). Simply having your child draw their emotions daily or asking them how they’re feeling about how they felt after their day at school or completing a task is a great way to start.

2.) Mindfulness listening:

For this activity, you want the child to practicing their listening skills. Have your child or students sit in a quiet free zone and then have them listen for sounds around them. You can play different sounds from YouTube or also make different sounds with different objects and have them guess the sound.

3.) Meditation:

For this activity you want the child to lie down on the carpet or in a clean area and have them close their eyes. Then play light music in the background and have children envision a place that is free of distractions.

4.) Walk it out!

You’ll be surprised about how simply walking can increase your child’s benefit in mindfulness. Walking can simply clean your child’s mind after becoming frustrated with a task and also work on increasing their health benefits as well. Try going for a walk for about 30 minutes a day and have your child listen to the sounds around them.

5.) Deep Breathing:

Doing this meditation technique will help your child focus on their coping skills as well as their breathing. By doing deep breathing exercises daily for about 30 minutes children will become mindful of their surroundings and the things around them.

6.) Mindfulness Coloring:

Coloring for any child is a source of relief for them. Just think about when you used to color all of those pictures in kindergarten or art class. Mindful coloring helps us to focus on how we choose and apply color in a design to bring our awareness to the present moment. It also has many benefits such as lowering anxiety, increasing creativity, and bringing out a sense of compassion.

7.) Rainbow walk:

In this activity, all you need to do is go outside and walk and encourage the child to find something that’s the color of the rainbow. For example, have a clipboard with different color leaves on it.

Then have the student go on a scavenger hunt to find the leaves with that same color listed on the clipboard.

This activity is a great way to practice mindfulness activities because the students are present in the moment.
