I don’t think I’ve ever met any Teacher nowadays who doesn’t have a second job besides their own teaching job. But due to Coronavirus and people being laid off, fired, or furloughed, I think it’s safe to say that nobody is exempt from going steady to jobless.
As for Teachers crisis or not we know that we don’t make a lot of money, and that we need multiple ways to diversify our income. It is said in the bible that we should have at least 7 if not 8 income streams in case of a crisis.
But if you’re just like me and want to leave the teaching field altogether, or just want to bring in an extra income then I’m here to share with you side hustles that teachers can do at home or in person.
What are the best Teacher side hustles?
1. Private Tutoring
The most common side hustle for Teachers is tutoring! I can’t tell you enough of how easy it is to start your own tutoring business. I have my own tutoring side business called How To Become A Private Tutor and Make Money Online on Facebook where I tutor children in person and remotely to bring in over $1,000/month or more by charging my clients anywhere from $25/hour to $100/hour in reading, math, and social skills. When you know that you’re good at a subject I promise you that people will pay you for what you’re worth.
2. Teaching English Online
Similar to private tutoring but more focused on English lessons only. You can tutor English to non English learners online from the comfort of your own bed or living room. I tutored all last summer of 2019 and made a whooping $2,000 and more in my short summer break working at 3 different online English tutoring platforms.
I have work for Education First, Tutoringgo, and Cambly. All were easy money tutoring English online to adults and children while learning new experiences. If you’re interested in Cambly which is the easiest of all three of these companies, and doesn’t require a DEGREE! then you will probably want to try Cambly which is an online tutoring English platform via face to face teaching adults and children all over the world. Just click cambly to sign up through my referral code to get started.
3. Babysitting or Nanny
Another common side hustle for Teachers is becoming a babysitter or nanny. Yes, you can charge whatever you want or the market rate in your area. I started babysitting out of my mom’s house watching children for $15/hour throughout the week and would bring in an extra $100-$400/week.
But to get the most out of babysitting or nannying you should probably niche down to a specific skill set that sets you apart from someone else to attract more clients. For example, my niche was attracting clients with children with disabilities. I knew that parents needed breaks from children with Autism or any other disability so I would reach out to those parents which made me stand out from the rest.
4. Sell Your Own Products
People love getting things in the mail and tracking their shipment to the house. So why not create your own product to sell to others. You can create T-Shirts on bonfire where you design the T-shirt and they ship the product to the customers. Or create an online store on Zazzle to create cool designs on a variety of products to sell. Or even create your own teacher products to sell online.
5. Coaching/Consultation
Are you good at giving someone else advice? Well try coaching or consulting to others in need. We teachers are very resourceful when it comes to thinking outside of the box for when solving problems.
I know numerous people who ditch their 9-5 jobs to coach others on a specific top, idea, or niche that they’re good at. For example, you could coach parents on how to help children cope with transitions at school, or coach others on how to budget your money living off of a teacher’s salary.
6. Blogging
Blogging is a great way to earn some extra income a month. Although blogging takes some time to fully get indexed in Google and get notice by followers. It’s a great way to show off your freelance skills in a specific niche or area of expertise in a certain field.
I started this blog to help families, educators, and advocates to help meet the needs of children with disabilities with my suggestions, advice, and knowledge that I have gained over the years in teaching. Through blogging you can promote a product or your product to your followers and make an extra income up to $1,000/month or more.
7. Surveys
Yes, let me start off by saying that surveys isn’t one of the most popular ways to make money. But it is a way to make easy money with least amount of effort. There are millions of surveys out there where you can easily make up to $1,000/month if you’re doing some once or twice a day for the entire month.
But my favorite survey that I use is Voxpopme now known as Influence survey app which is a video survey platform only to earn an extra $15 to $100/month to help pay for my small bills such as gas, groceries, food, light bill, and any other small bill. Just click the link below the picture to get started and download the app to your phone.

9. Pet Sitting
Another commonly easy job for anyone is petting sitting! So head on over to rover which is a pet sitting business that allows you to connect with your customers by providing boarding, house sitting, dog walking, and drop-in visits for their pets. There are a lot of people who start pet sitting and charge $30/hour or more and easily bring in over $1,000/month by providing the best care to their clients and customers.

10. Rent Your Space
One of my favorite and most easiest ways to earn money is by renting out your space. This space could be an extra spare room in your home, garage, back yard, or any other space that you own. To get started you can utilize airbnb to rent out your space or simply craigslist to list your extra space to others needing your space to hold a function or celebration.
Why saving money is important!
